Appleseed Project

The Miamisburg Sportsmen's Club has hosted a very worthy cause for the summer of 2009. The Appleseed Project is a 501(c)3, non-profit, all-volunteer effort that is tasked with Returning America to a Nation of Riflemen. Simply put, a Rifleman is an individual that possesses knowledge about the founding of our country, the ability to shoot a rifle out to 500 yards, and the willingness to teach others these uniquely American skills.

Over 400 Appleseed events will be held in 2009 from coast to coast and border to border.  At these family-friendly events, participants learn from  qualified Appleseed instructors what transpired on April 19, 1775, when the first official shots of America’s Revolutionary War were fired in Lexington and Concord.  Attendees of all skill levels also receive world-class instruction regarding the safe and effective use of a rifle for field shooting out to 500 yards.  Everyone, whether Beginner or Expert, will learn together!  Women, Children under 21, and Active Duty Military attend for free.

Remaining 2009 Miamisburg dates are September 19-20 and November 7-8.  Visit www.appleseedinfo.org for more information or email Mike Kinsey.

IPSC/USPSA Barn

With the help and hardwork of club members and non-members alike the new IPSC/USPSA barn is up and ready to be moved into. The newsletter will have pictures of the barn as well as those hard-working volunteers. A special thanks to new members Keith Miller and Todd Sukie who provided the heavy equipment and construction expertise (they are now busy working on the 200-yard range and doing a great job!) who helped get the job done.

USPSA Monday Night Match - SEASON OPENER!

Monday 14 Sept 2009 will usher in the new season of USPSA Monday night matches at MSC. Bring a buddy and tell a friend! The matches are also open to non-members. Make sure your pistol is clean, holster is in the range bag, and have at least 100-rounds ready to fire.

Congratulations Ed!!!

Edwin “Ed” Agle, a Miamisburg Sportsmen’s Club member, has won the NRA/Springfield M1A Match in the senior division with a score of 461-9X. This match is fired at 300 yards. The course of fire is slow fire standing and prone and rapid fire prone as well as slow fire and rapid fire sitting. Ed was awarded $500, a Springfield Pistol and an M1A Medallion.

As of this posting the north pistol bay will be the only bay that you allowed to shoot shotgun slugs in. Just for the simple fact that the slugs do a lot of damage to the rubber backing and the north bay is easer to get at for repairs. Thank you

7/10/2008

The new electronic gate is finished, and the new gate cards are being passed out. You must pick up your new gate card and sign for it, contact Rick Merz: 937-545-9208 to pick it up. We need work party help. You can save yourself money and the club money! We are having work party's every Saturday

3-12-08 Trustee’s Meeting: Rick Merz suggested that, due to poor work party participation, we authorize the daily hiring of manpower labor to keep up with the work schedule. Eric stated that this is available and works out well. A motion was made and passed to authorize $1500.00 for this purpose from the club’s general fund. Worker safety considerations preclude using Such hired workers for indoor range lead removal.

The center pistol bay may be used from 10 am until trap shooting starts about 3 pm. Use paper targets only - no metal targets yet.

The 22 caliber range may be used from 10 am until trap shooting starts about 3 pm. Use the north side only. There are target stands on the 50 and 100 yard lines. Make sure the target height is such that any bullet going through the target hits the backstop. Do not shoot on the metal targets.

These ranges will be open every Sunday. It may be possible to keep the pistol bay and 22 range open during the week - we should know by Monday night, Aug 21.
