Miamisburg Sportsmen's Club

Construction Projects

Members!

The club will be closed from Monday 23 August 2010 through 29 August 2010 due to some major construction projects. The main project being the replacement of the main driveway into the club. Please schedule your range days around the projects and the improvements will make our club even better once they are done.

Thank You Terry Smith!!!

At the Miamisburg Sportsmen’s Club membership meeting on July 14, 2010, Frank Fecke submitted a motion that Terry Smith be awarded an honorary life membership in the Miamisburg Sportsmen’s Club for his 27 years of service as its Ohio Division of Wildlife licensing agent.

Terry took over the duties of club licensing agent in 1982.  Club license sales at that time were $14,000 per year with a gross income of $36,000.  Through much effort and the use of his marketing skills Terry increased the sales to $44,000 per year with a gross income of $850,000.

From 1982 to the present time Terry has raised $135,742 for the club treasury.  He has also raised an additional $136,000 for Youth and Conservation programs.

In 2009 as the previous license program was ending and the new grant process beginning, Terry spent considerable time working with the club’s grant writer, attending meetings and coordinating with Division of Wildlife officials to secure grants valued at $9,000.

In recognition of his accomplishments, the Miamisburg Sportsmen’s Club has awarded an Honorary Life Membership to Terry Smith.

Range Safety Trainning

MSC and Vince from Family Tactical Training is offering a great opportunity to our club. There are 12 slots open for NRA Range Safety Officer training for $50! This is a wonderful chance to further your knowledge and help keep the club safe. If you are interested contact our President, John Thyne for more information.

Range Improvements

At the last meeting, funding was approved to add additional gravel to the roads in order to help with our drainage issues. Up to 16 loads of gravel will be delivered and spread at the .22 / pistol range road, as well as the 50-, and 100-yard ranges. Apologies in advance if they are working when you show up to the club, but it will help us all out in the end.

Ed Suhr Range Dedication

EdSuhr-dedication

Summer Smallbore League Director Al Lindsey, Winter Smallbore League Director Karen Unfried, and smallbore shooters Frank Fecke and Fred Unfried hold the sign declaring the .22 rifle range to be the “Ed Suhr Memorial Range.”

Friends of the NRA Award!

Congratulations Karen! You have done a great job for the club.

Miamisburg Sportsmen’s Club member, Karen Unfried, was awarded the Friends of NRA (FONRA) Area Volunteer of the Year for the Ohio (Southern) Region. Karen was the secretary for the Miami Valley Friends of NRA and provided support to the state of Ohio FONRA committee.
“The 2nd Annual FONRA Volunteers of the Year Award recognizes those volunteers who have made an outstanding impact on the program at the local or regional levels during the previous year. There are many who contribute their time to FONRA banquets each year, but those who lend exceptional help deserve recognition. This program by FONRA is designed to let these dedicated and loyal volunteers know their efforts do not go unseen and are deeply appreciated.
Area Volunteers of the Year are individuals acknowledged for their hard work and accomplishments that enhanced the success of banquets over the past year. They are recommended by their area field representative and chosen by a select committee of senior NRA staff, who evaluates criteria such as banquet tickets sold, sponsorships sold, pre-event raffle dollars, and underwriting they received during the previous year, as well as years of volunteer work and positions held during their service. Recipients of the award were given a “2009 FONRA Volunteer of the Year” leather jacket to further display their support for the NRA along with special recognition from their area field representative.” (NRA news release, 31 Mar 10)

Appleseed Project Events

Mike Kinsey, a trustee for MSC and a leader in the Appleseed project, has several events coming up this year at the Miamisburg Sportsmen’s Club. The project is great for the young, middle-aged, and older alike. There is much to learn, and for us older folk it is a worthy organization to become involved in and teach our youngsters. For more information you can click here.

New Feautres Coming Up!

I have been working on implementing a new feature for the club web site. Look in the near future for a Members Only section. That is about as much as I can give away right now. Check back the first week of March!!!

ODNR Grants to MSC

Mr. Todd Haines of the ODNR notified Terry Smith and Karen Unfired that the club received $9,335 in grant monies for five of the nine grants applied for. The grants funded were for Youth Programs, erosion Control and Noise Abatement on the outdoor ranges, Range Safety Signs, and Eyebrows on the
.22 range. The grant paperwork has been singed and work can be started in 2010 after the receipt of funds.

All of the project managers will be looking for labor to help improve our range with these funds. If you have time, please try and help out.

The club gives a BIG THANKS to Terry and Karen for all of their hard work to secure these funds to improvements to our club!
